Happiness Lies in Small Things
For the past 4 days, my wife was at the Horse Fair in Madrid for her company Prime Hay, which imports prime hay to Spain and Portugal. During her absence, I had sole responsibility for our child. Together with Elyas, we had a fantastic weekend with mini-city trips to Sagres and Lagos. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
Happiness truly resides in small things, like the bold waitress in Lagos who placed the red wine ordered by Elyas in front of him, instead of me, or the cheerful driver who came to deliver our horse from the Netherlands, all smiles despite the long journey.
And then there are the kind-hearted Portuguese, often much more polite in traffic than stressed-out Dutch people. And my mother, who chose to savor her last 12 summer weeks after receiving the diagnosis of cancer.
Happiness really does come from the little things, like the Dutch gentleman who offered to take a photo of Elyas and me together. Thank you, kind stranger!
Every day, we have the choice to make it a beautiful day. Enjoy life!
