WOW! What an evening! Some restaurants simply get everything right. Salicórnia, at the beautiful Verdelago Resort near Praia Verde, is one of them. A rare experience!
Famous chef Louis Anjos (formerly of Michelin-starred Al Sud in Lagos) leads the kitchen, while the fantastic maître Ruben, previously at Michelin-starred Herdade do Esporão, runs the restaurant.
Just 14 tables, a lovely terrace, warm lighting, stylish furniture, jazzy music and a wonderful open kitchen. Just like on TV, sous-chef Ismael Carvalho calls out the orders to his team. Cool!
The atmosphere is relaxed but professional, with a nice mix of Portuguese and international guests. The staff are genuinely friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Even the fish is filleted tableside!
And the food? Amazing!
We started with the couvert, followed by delicious Portuguese green beans. Then an incredible portobello mushroom with vegan pesto and nuts. And my main course? Roasted pumpkin Malandrinho rice (€16), packed with flavour. Absolutely fantastic! Accompanied by a beautiful full-bodied Portuguese red wine, recommended by the team.
Dessert was heaven: almond, carrot, crumble, vegan cream and a delicious little drink. What a finish!
The menu is creative, with excellent vegetarian and vegan options, including a sweet potato stew (€18). And the prices? Main courses range from €16 for the Pumpkin Malandrinho Rice to €33 for the Entrecôte. Very reasonable for this level of cooking!
There's also a separate bar and breakfast area.
Salicórnia is exactly what I love about modern fine dining: outstanding food, professional service, beautiful surroundings, but without the stiffness.
For me, one of the most exciting new restaurants in the Algarve in 2026. A serious contender for our Hotspots Algarve Top 100!
